I would recommend talking to a Dell sales rep, via webchat or phone. I couldn't find a way to choose Ubuntu on the website, but I chatted with a sales rep and he was very helpful in putting together a quote with all the options I wanted and completing the order. I suspect that the website ordering system lags behind the actual available options, which is unfortunate, but chatting with the sales rep was very quick and painless.

I have already spoken to a sales rep, and while he was very helpful he still came back with the same issue. Full Mini Card SSD's are not supported with Ubuntu in UK. How can that be possible, it must be the same hardware components and firmware so why would there be any difference?

The Sales rep didn't seem to be able to get me any further than that unfortunately.

Currently the only thing stopping me buying one of these machines is the lack of ability to add an option for a Full Mini Card SSD.

This is an option that seems to be available from the US so it cant be a hardware support issue.

For my requirements I would like the ability to have boot SSD with a secondary drive for data, but it would also be nice to have the option to swap out that second drive for increased battery capacity.

Is this already something that's in the pipeline to come to the UK? Has there been a mistake on the UK website or are we just not loved in the same way as the American market?

The new M3800 Linux edition is great news! But several people in this thread asked about docking, which hasn't really been addressed.  So I started a new thread about it here: en.community.dell.com/.../19621358

1) YES 1920×1080 is available and works (confirmed in this thread)

2) IFAIK, it's + thunderbolt 2, nothing lost.

3) I'd like to know that too. A DELL sales rep today confirmed with me that daisy-chaining displays over displayport should work on m3800 with Ubuntu. Can anybody who owns m3800 confirm it? Or at lest confirm one external monitor working with displayport?

4) USB3 docks are useless and no support is coming. Thunderbolt docks may be an option in near future. Read this forum for more info.

5) It is a stock Ubuntu 14.04 with extra repo(s) and packages from those repos installed. Read this forum for more info.

I bought a M3800 with windows and installed elementary os freya myself (based on ubuntu 14.04)

So 2&3:

I don't have any thunderbolt devices so not sure if the thunderbolt actually works as a thunderbolt now. But it works perfectly as a displayport at least. Have not tried to daisy-chain it, again nothing to test it with.

I am using with a 4K display from asus: http://www.asus.com/Monitors_Projectors/PB287Q/

So runnning in full 4K with 60hz. Love it.

Hi George,

similar issue here in France.

The only Ubuntu-able M3800 offer I could find starts at 1800€, while the M3800 is being offered itself in the windows based configuration starting from 1650€.

Is it possible to get the better price for the Ubuntu workstation?

Merci!

@Ezearg,

That shouldn't be.  Let me forward to the European team to investigate.

thanks for the heads up!
