First, please accept my apologies if the subject has been already discussed ad nauseam. My initial search didn't return with answers seeked.
 
Being a lazy chap who tries to drift away from Windows, I'm considering a purchase of Inspiron Notebook 1420 N with Ubuntu loaded (thus avoiding searches for multiple Linux drivers and their, drivers, installation hassle). On the other hand, because of the need to work with Photoshop (and Photoshop only, GIMP is not enough), I need the option of installing Win XP and booting in Windows environment.
 
Seems that Dell doesn't offer the dual boot configuration. Guess, I can install GRUB, create a partition for Windows, and install them.
 
Questions:
 
1. any errors in my logic?
2. are all necessary XP drivers for 1420N available for download from Dell?

There are a couple of other possibilities, it may be possible to use wine or Crossover to run Photoshop on Linux or you could run Win XP in a virtual machine. Both of these options would allow you to use Photoshop with out having to reboot the computer to switch between Win XP and Linux.

If you do decide to go with a dual boot setup when you install Win XP it will over write Grub with it's own boot loader that will not see anything but the Windows partitions so you will have to re-install Grub after installing Win XP.

If you want to spend a little bit more money with your hardware, you could consider virtualizing Windows using VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org). In any case, if you wish to dual-boot Windows, you will need to install Windows first and then Linux.
