Grub boot utility fails-"Error 21"

I just installed Debian on a brand new hard drive on my Dim 4550. Partitioned, formatted, installed OS, installed Grub for dual boot. When I restarted, right after the startup screen with the blue Dell logo, I get the message "Grub init failed: Error 21". And it wont do anything. No key commands, no soft reboot, nothing. I have to restart with the power button. Now I can't even get to The Dark Side so my daughter can check her E-mail! Help!

Is there a problem with Grub on my computer? I need linux at the house so I can do some things for work.

This is a GRUB stage 2 error:

21 : Selected disk does not exist This error is returned if the device part of a device- or full file name refers to a disk or BIOS device that is not present or not recognized by the BIOS in the system.

Try going into your BIOS and setting the specific parameters of your hard drives rather than using the "auto" setting.
