Headphone-Speaker problems on Inspirion E1505n, Ubuntu
I'm getting weird problems with my headphones and speakers on my Inspirion E1505n. It seems like when I put it into "hibernate" then bring it back on the speakers are turned on whether or not the headphone jack is installed.
Also, I turned off the system beeps in the "system - preferences - sound" panel, which did turn off the beeps. But now, my front panel audio controls don't work. It just shows a muted speaker when I push them.
So, first, how can I turn off the speakers manually, without turning off the headphone Jack? I still need to use the headphones, but I would prefer to separately control the ability to turn off the speakers. I want to be able to control it regardless of hibernation, rebooting, or any other external influences.
Second, is there any way to get the external volume controls working again?

If, by external volume controls, you mean the buttons on the front of the laptop, you can set up the buttons again by going to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts. There, you click on the function you want to set a hotkey for and then push the button. Backspace disables the shortcut key.
