Installing 7.04 on a D830

I got a D830 from work today and it came with Vista Business installed. I downloaded the X86-64 7.04 Ubuntu CD. The CD boots fine but when it comes time to mount the root file system on the CD, the CD is not visible to the kernel. I can't look at any messages since it falls into busybox. Not quite sure how to proceed. Does something need to change in the BIOS so that the CD image can be mounted? Thanks, Pat

Following up to my own post...

/proc/scsi/scsi only lists the hard drive as being present. Any clues why the DVD drive wouldn't show up?

Thanks,

Pat

Hello

Just a bit more info, albeit from a Latitude D630. Ubuntu install fails with
Busybox  ....

/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control  turned off.

If I turn "expert" on in the boot flags then the "mounting root file system" does not show OK.

And as with the previous poster, there is no CD/DVD device in /proc/scsi/scsi, only the hard disk.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You should try the alternate CD, this one will work.

Thanks for the tip - the download is underway - VGA 1024 X 768 with Mandriva (2.6.17) works but the next hurdle would have (is?!)  to build a 965 driver and modify X ( all via the Intelgraphics pages) - perhaps the Ubuntu disti will lead me around that hurdle - my main aim is to get a stable kernel onto which I can build a Xen config and use the 7300 VT functionality - here's hoping!!:smileyhappy:
