Is it possible? Debian Sarge on PowerEdge 830?

It's difficult to answer in an absolutly fashion.

The best way is to try : Take the minimal cd (netinstall) and give it a try.
If the installer found the network card, the chipset for harddisk, and finally the harddisk you are on the good way.

If you have raid bios activated, and the installer is showing you only one disk, that prove you have a good kernel module for that, and you could use it and have sarge installed without any big trouble.

Obviously, the sarge kernel is a bit "old" for new hardware (sata, raid ...).
Perharps you have to take a new kernel from Etch(testing) and have to assemble a new sarge installer with your new perfect suitable kernel.
Ok it's a bit the hard way. But when you have it install, it running like a charm.
