linux installation on XPS gen 4 (dual boot)?

Hi,

I have a very nice gaming system -- windows XP home, XT850, 2Gb memory, 160Gb SATA drive, linksys wireless ethernet 54G.

I would like to install redhat linux as a dual boot option.

Does anyone know if a RH version of linux supports the gen 4 ... with the configuration listed above? I can provide more info if necessary. I am thinking of adding a second 160Gb SATA drive for linux use only.

You shouldn't have to many issues, but what I would do first is this...look around this forum for some issues people have had with SATA and Linux, just so you know what you are getting into.

Secondly, I would take each component and ensure myself that there is linux equivalent driver for the component...some of the wireless cards, especially Dell ones don't have a linux driver yet. If not a big deal then you will be fine.

Which version of Red Hat are you going with, it is pretty user friendly so you shouldn't have to many problems

If you use the Fedora Core 4 you should not have any problems. Fedora is very user friendly and has drivers to almost every system.

I've got a XPS Gen 4 which I'm trying to install Fedora Core 4 on. My setup is a bit different than the other mentioned in this thread as I have Win XP Pro installed in a RAID 1 config.

Every attempt so far with installing FC4 has ended at the "Installing package" screen. The progress bar doesn't move a bit and there seem to be now hardrives that are spinning or DVD-reading. At the last attempt I left the computer at that screen for 20 mins and no progress. I then restarted it and it seems that the NTLDR had been removed as windows wouldn't boot without me going into boot menu.

What do I need to do to get FC4 working on my XPS?
