M1330n Upgraded to 8.04 from 7.10 -- nVidia Driver Not Working Properly
Hello,
I upgraded my (brand new) M1330n to Ubuntu 8.04 without any major problems except that the nVidia driver doesn't allow the screen resolution to be set at 1280x800 -- the native resolution for the M1330n's LCD display.
When I disable the nVidia (proprietary) driver(s) and reboot, the screen goes to 1280x800, but there is no hardware excelleration which seriously degrades LinDVD playback.
Is there any way to get the proprietary nVidia driver(s) to work at 1280x800 under Ubuntu 8.04 on my M1330n?

well I am a Fedora guy, but I assume Ubuntu uses xorg as well...
check the resolution settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and go to the "Screen" section and check the Modes in the "Display" SubSection and see if that resolution is in there, if not, add it, and restart X (CNTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE)

Go to the Ubuntu Forums. There have been lots of problems with Nvidia in Hardy. I ended up reinstalling Hardy 4 times in one day to get it to work. Don't ask me how I did it, as I have been working with Linux for only 2 weeks. I just followed instructions in various threads in the Ubuntu Forum. It's not an easy fix.
