many XPS 13 2015 Developer Edition issues
I've relied on Ubuntu 14.04 installed on the 2013 XPS 13; everything has worked reliably.
I recently received the 2015 XPS 13 edition with Ubuntu 14.04 pre-installed, and encountered many problems:
- the trackpad jumps to random screen locations and freezes
- Chrome reports WebGL isn't supported, even with the GPU blacklist and sandbox disabled
- both Ekiga and Linphone crash when making H.323 or SIP calls
- Antimony's Qt/GL window shows framebuffer garbage
- update/upgrade failed during install, and required multiple iterations of apt-get -f to repair
- make recovery media failed during install
This system just shipped, and came with the A03 BIOS.
I'm starting a thread because this is so many things wrong it doesn't fit into a single issue; I suspect there's a common driver or firmware origin that links them.

Standard Ubuntu install? It just worked for me. I grabbed the ISO, dd'ed it to a USB stick, booted, installed, made sure Secure Boot was on. I didn't do anything special.

Yeah just a standard install done the way you did. Downloaded the ISO from ubuntu, dd'd to a flash drive, booted, installed per UEFI instructions. I'll give it a try again soon and see if it works. I guess for now this is acceptable with a minicard SSD password in the firmware set and the home directory encrypted.
Also, after about 2 more hours of use I am starting to have repeating keys again :(

Why are those instructions needed?
Put differently: why can't we simply put the Ubuntu 15.04 ISO on a USB stick, plug it into a USB port, boot to it, and run the install? This is what Jared (above) did, and it worked for him.
Specifically: what is step (2) all about? Should we assume /cdrom refers to wherever the USB stick is mounted (the XSP-13 doesn't have a CDROM). Creating an /EFI/BOOT directory on the disk and copying a bunch of files to it from the USB stick, before booting to the Ubuntu USB and launching the installation.
Also, I assume step 5 meant to say to the RIGHT of the file name text area (not LEFT)?
And where does this BOOTX64.EFI file mentioned, come from? The procedure talks about it but doesn't say where we obtain it. Is it in the /EFI/BOOT directory we copied in step (2)? If so, that implies it's part of the Ubuntu ISO image.
That implies in step (7), we navigate to /EFI/BOOT to find this file.
PS I just poked around in the Ubuntu ISO image, and it already has a file /EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.EFI.
So the purpose of Dell's procedure is to ensure this file is copied to the primary Ubuntu drive during installation? Does that imply this file is on the ISO only to make the ISO bootable, and it doesn't copy this file to the system when it installs Ubuntu?

Good question. I just switched over from an X1 Carbon and didnt have to do anything special to get it to work in UEFI mode. It just did after the Ubuntu install. After installing it on the XPS, it didn't boot until i followed those steps.

All right, this laptop is getting returned. It's so buggy. Took a 2 hour train ride today, used the laptop for about 10 minutes on the train, closed the lid and put it to sleep. When I got to my hotel, I went to get out the laptop and it was blazing hot. It never went to sleep and was just FRYING in my bag. When I opened it I could barely touch the aluminum case. This has got to be one of the buggiest laptops I've ever used.

Does this indicates a hardware problem perhaps?

On my new XPS-13 (2015) I'm running the A03 bios and loaded Ubuntu 15.04 with the full disk encryption, the boot states
No Bootable devices found
Press F1 key to retry boot
Press F2 key for setup utility
Press F5 key to run on board diagnostics
Diagnostics are all green
I reinstalled without disk encryption and it receive the same error.
I've restored using the recovery USB, but that is in a do loop starting, loading, rebooting and not settling down to a loaded configuration. Is there an ISO for the recovery media to download?
