Novell Linux Desktop on M70 Precision

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of installing Novell Linux Desktop on a Precision M70 Laptop. I have managed to install OK, and got the display, wireless etc working.

Currently can't get Sound to work, as not sure which driver to install.

Anyone else had any experiences?

Much appreciated

Chris

I run NLD on an M70. I found that you need to run "alsaconf" from the terminal as root and let it configure your sound card, then sound is great. I also recommend downloading the most recent nVidia driver and compiling it. I run that video driver and have selected an LCD 1680x1050@60hz monitor, and set the x to 344, and y to 222. If you have the conexant modem, I would also recommend downloading and installing the linuxant hsf driver to get your soft modem to work. Incidently, my laptop supports 1920x1200@60hz, but I don't have the modeline to put my X config at the moment. Oh, I would also make sure to run all your NLD support updates before you compile your nVidia driver as it is going to update your kernel, and then you would have to re-compile it anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for that, sound now works great.

I used to have a D800 with 1920x1200, and here is the modeline I used, don't know if this helps.

HorizSync 28-110

VertRefresh 43-90

Modeline "1920x1200" 162 1920 1984 2176 2480 1200 1201 1204 1250 +hsync +vsync

Cheers

Chris
