Power saving tips for the XPS 13 (9360)

Hi guys,

just wondering if any of you have any recommendations for power saving on the Dell XPS 13 (9360) to get through as many hours as possible. The OS would be Ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10

How many hours do you get before you have to charge?

best,
theresa

All the usual stuff - use a power manager that will dim the display and suspend the pc when you're not using it. I use powertop to get an idea of what's eating the most power. A few things I've learned:

1. f you're not using Chrome, shut it down. You can also go into Chrome's settings and tell it to not run in the background. Generally Chrome is at the top of the list for cpu use, even if no window is open.

2. I also noticed that Dropbox would *** down the cpu cycles just monitoring for changes. Tell it to pause syncing to extend life.

3. Kill bluetooth and wifi if you're not using them.

Ha. Just noticed my post was censored. I didn't say anything bad really. The censored word describes how you would drink something (like power) really fast - or through a straw. Context is everything. :)
