Problem w/ Mandrake 9.2 install

I have a D4600 2.4 with 2 40gig HD's.  Have Nvidia MX card w/ 64 mb and FP1800 monitor.
WinXP on the master drive and attempting to put MD 9.2 on the slave drive.  Dual boot system

Started with clean slave drive. It was formatted and single partition by MD 9.2 install routine.  Installation when well until setting up video/display.  Test screen is blank. Same blank screen if booted with Xfree graphical activated.  System just boots and hangs. It never enters the graphical  KDE or Gnome interface after boot routine.   I have Reinstalled without Xfree, but it boots to loalhost command  screen, then will go no further.

I put 9.2  on another computer in my office (older model Gateway) with no problems. Its working great.  Any suggestions??? Your advise or comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Install Mandrake (or any other Linux distro) without testing the X server. Then go to NVIDIA site and download the linux drivers (IA32) and install them (the driver installation is done in console mode). Then you might consider tuning your /etc/X11/XF86Config in order to load the apropriate drivers. You will find more documentation about installing these drivers on NVIDIA's site.

By the way, have a look at this site.

Thank you, AlxMAX. I Knew there was a problem with the Nvidia cards, but never understood the solution. I will try your advise this weekend.

I had the same sort of problem a long time ago, and while I don't remember the specific thing to do to correct it, I remember that after I selected a video card, I was provided a check box when specifying which version of XFree I wanted that gave me the option for 3D something-something. When I unchecked it, all of the display stuff ended up working fine.

Hope that may help.

Thanks, I will give it a try, because I need to re-install MD 9.2 anyway.
