The recent update

A day or two ago, my mini 9's update-manager informed me that there were updates available. I installed them. Following this, my firefox profile was reset to defaults and the windows key no longer fullscreens anything.

I found one post on this forum noting the same problems, though it seems to have now been deleted. However, the google cache is still available: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=clnk&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F74.125.77.132%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dcache%3AvgI2BLL4XF8J%3Aen.community.dell.com%2Fforums%2FThreadNavigation.aspx%253FPostID%253D18943162%2526NavType%253DPrevious%2Bdell%2Bmini%2Bubuntu%2Bupdate%26hl%3Den%26ct%3Dclnk%26cd%3D1%26gl%3Dus&ei=U0JqSZSuBo-Y-gbTpMmvBw&usg=AFQjCNGOIjHrhE4N6UCNrK25AB9daeDkGQ&sig2=3vka9ICh0DnPh8EG1IhY-w

Has anyone else experienced this? The firefox reset isn't so much a problem as a brief inconvenience (though were it to recur with every update I'd be pretty upset). The windows key fullscreen capability is one of the most useful features, though, and I'm now sorely missing it. Any workarounds to this found yet?

I had exactly the same problem with my mini 9 after the recent update. Found the solution in this forum post:

Try Fn-Z (which is F11).  This may not work unless you upgrade your bios.

There are some posts in the ubuntu forums on how to do a bios upgrade without windows.
