Ubuntu 7.04 & Internal Audio Speaker?

Well I got a GX740DT recently and it has the internal speaker fitted, however Ubuntu only outputs sound from the external speakers I attach. What am I missing? Does the speaker even work in Ubuntu or am I being a bit of an idiot?

Open your soundmixer interface and find the switches marked as "Headphone Jack Sense" and "Line Jack Sense". These switches are turned on, though the jack(s) are not plugged in. Try turning them off and save the configuration. The sound through the internal speakers should now work fine.

I've only got the sound panel to go on I'm afraid, no soundmixer program is present, I've checked using Audacity but als no luck,

I am using KDE and the Kmix application has the "jack sense" switches. Maybe you should install an mixing application like gnome-volume-control for your Gnome desktop on Ubuntu.

Suppose the GNOME Volume Control is running in the Panel:

- Right click the Volume Control icon in the Panel and select 'Open Volume Control'
- Set output volumes and input levels
- Mute 'Headphone Jack Sense' and 'Line Jack Sense'

Please let me know if it did you any good...

Howdy
There are a lot of threads on the Ubuntu forums about this problem
I also have been struggling with it.
I just went into my bios & disabled my onboard sound, & ahhha, my SB card & my head phones work. Yaaaa.
I now can listen to Raidio 365, & both my CD players work.
But Nascar only gives me the intro sound & thats it.
No video on Nascar also, problem for another day.

I now get video & sound on Nascar's page.
All I did was reboot,go fiqure.
As a side note Radio 365 plays in Movie Player, with effects much
like WMP.
