do you get the ubuntu logo during boot then the screen goes blank? If so, it is probably the video driver not set properly.. Check the Ubuntu Forums.. I'm running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on my 710m.. works great.. good luck http://ubuntuforums.org/

When grub comes up, press 'e', then choose the kernel you're booting, and remove the 'quiet splash' at the end of it. then boot the kernel. You should get errors or something when it stops, or if just stops, you'll be able to tell what's having the problem.

Howdy
What video card do you have or do you have one ?
Are you using the first line  run or install ?
I have to use the second line which is I believe is
load safe video drivers or something along that line.
I have a ATI card & Ubuntu has problems with them.
I just messed up my installation updating to 6.10 , so now I have to
reinstall later this evening, so I'll come back & edit this to get the
correct second line.
