When is Dell going to offer Linux for small businesses?
Hey guys, thanks for answering some questions for us… Nice to see Dell starting to offer Linux for the consumer market, but I was wondering when is Dell going to offer Linux for the small business market? Thanks,

Here are the replies I've got:
You mean, those are somehow only good for home use?
W...what?! Comparing Ubuntu with WinXP?! How can an OS with a kernel "optimized for 8 CPUs or mores" (just tick the box for 'server kernel' in Synaptix) and a truckload of development and server software be considered "consumer grade" only?
Great. XPS 410 N with E6600 CPU, 2GB RAM: $756
Precision 390 N (cheapest option), same CPU/RAM/HD: $1656, a tad $900 more
Dell, get serious. I really appreciate your Linux and FreeDOS offerings (or more generally PCs without the Windows tax), but frankly, non-tech-savvy users buying their PC at the local grocery store won't even get a chance to choose Ubuntu, and most geeks buying hardware for home use won't go for preconfigured systems like Dell offers.
Where Dell's Ubuntu offering become really interesting is for laptops, where piecing machines together isn't practical, and businesses, which want "pre-made stuff that works", installed & tested, no fiddling around with drivers and kernel options, no paying for useless stuff like an extra OS.
I need to buy GNU/Linux/FOSS-friendly hardware very soon. I'd be happy to get Dell stuff, as over 90% of our PCs are already Dells... unless of course it turns out to be too much of a headache because of some reasons beyond me I can't even get a quote for some systems.
