XPS 13 9300 - Does fingerprint reader work on linux?

Hi! I purchased the new xps 13 9300 a little while ago. It comes with Windows pre-installed, so I deleted it and installed Ubuntu instead. This works almost perfect, except the fingerprint reader(FPR).

The manufacture of the FPR on xps 13, Goodix was notorious for not providing linux driver, and the issue has been discussed within XPS/linux users so far. However for the new xps 13, finally FPR was supported with xps 13 Developer edition with Ubuntu 18.04 pre-installed.

Hi
I saw your post/comment regarding a goodix fingerprint driver that you were able to use. I use a goodix gf 3208 fingerprint reader on my dell machine and it doesnt work on linux. Can you help me install the required driver. I am new to linux.

Where are the sources for the driver libfprint-2-tod1-goodix? I would like to help to get it working on the 7590 model. Thanks in advance and best regards.

I *think* it was from one of these:

# lsusb |grep oodix
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 27c6:533c Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. FingerPrint

I'd love to see it supported on the 9700 model as well, and perhaps not so tied into Ubuntu but usable with a standard Linux kernel so it can be used on Debian or Arch or something.

Will the drivers posted by @DanielNTX for Ubuntu 20.04 work with the recently released Ubuntu 20.10?

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the finger print reader either...

lsusb | grep oodix
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 27c6:5385 Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. Fingerprint Reader

fprintd-enroll
list_devices failed: No devices available

Any ideas why that would be?

It also seems howdy is not happy either.

Hi @DanielNTX

Are there any working drivers for the Goodix fingerprint reader which comes with the Inspiron 14 7000 2in1 (7405).  The device is listed as

Bus 003 Device 004: ID 27c6:538d Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. FingerPrint

cheers

On XPS 9550 I had to configure howdy manually:

# howdy config

Added: device_path = /dev/video0

(have a look in your /dev/v4l/by-path/ )

Then howdy test/add worked fine

Hi

Sorry to disturb you.

I see that you have gotten the fingerprint sensor to work on Precision 5550.

Are you running a standard Ubuntu 20.04 LTS?

Thanks in advance.

regards, jarihj
