12 repairs. Still having issues
Hi All,
Just had the 12th repair in 2 years on my M17x-R4 and its still not working ive had the following parts replaced but I'm still having issues:
7 motherboards
6 graphics cards
6-8 gpu/graphic card fans
6 screens
2 wifi cards
2 keyboards
2 power supplies
I'm at the end of my tether after the engineers visit today i still have no wifi on the machine and the Alienware command lights don't work on keyboard and logo's. i spoke to Alienware if i want a working machine i need to send the machine to a repair facility otherwise its just a brick. Is there anyone who can help me?

What was the original problem to warrant all these repairs??? Might be a simple fix, but tech support automatically swap those parts. Its really hard to diagnose hardware issues over the phone. As for your wifi, did the tech change it to another model? Maybe just driver missing. This seems like a lot of repairs for a usually stable version of the M17x....
I would send the machine to depot as last resort as they have all the parts and can test there.. The tech in your home that Dell sends only has the part that was requested, possibly missing the one thing that's causing this, but from the looks of it, its all been swapped except the base. :) There might be a simple fix, usually is.

You've gone through the hassle of changing and testing all those parts.
Could it actually be a software issue?
Have you tried restoring the computer to the factory defaults?
Or in worst case scenario, re-installed the entire OS?

Would you be so kind of sending me your Service Tag over Personal Message? That way I can check what else has support done to help you out.

just an update the M17R4 is uneconomical to repair and they wont replace it this was the response
I'm sending you information about the last repair.
There were multiple parts replaced on this system in the last repair in depot and the issues with the system are still not resolved. Thus the Dell decided cancel this repair as it is beyond economical repair and the system is being delivered back to you unrepaired.
The Dell advices to take this system to the original reseller with the list of repairs as this unit is replacement unit for original XPS system.
Thank you for understanding,
kind regards
Paul from Alienware hardware support
