Abnormally high temperature(alienware M14x)

What were the temps seven months ago? Have you cleaned all of the dust out via the vents and compressed air?

The temperature of the CPU should not go above 90C. Check out this article, try the steps and if the temperatures are still high after that, send us an e-mail to AWsocialmedia@dell.com with your service tag, phone number and best time to reach you and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you Chris for your quick response. I roughly cleaned it before recording the temperature readings. I will clean it again with compressed air and follow the instructions suggested by NataliaatAW .

It has always been "warm", but I cannot recall the exact temperature seven months ago.

I have a DELL OPTIPLEX 160 that boots up OK and can log onto it, but as soon as it warms up, it logs itself off.  What could be the problem?  Thanks, George

what processor is this .is it a intel 3rd generation. i had the same problem.2nd generation intels are much better

I followed the steps Natalia and Chris suggested, they helped. It is still "warm" but not that "hot" anymore. I am just curious about what the normal CPU temperature should be while:

- running a video game?

- just surfing the internet?

well...the temperatures on a system will variate depending on different factors like the temperature of the room, or the surface that you have the computer on...so just remember that the temperature should never go above 90C, 100C is the max temperature that the system will take before it shuts down. Idling temps usually are below 70C, gaming temps can go up to 85C...

I know this is an old thread but the issue is the thermal compound that ships with the computer. You NEED to re-paste your cpu or the problem will not go away. I was running at 98C when i was playing battlefield and the computer would slow down to a crawl. I just replaced the thermal compound with Tuniq TX-2 thermal grease and my cpu never goes above 78C. Under a full load. The grease that ships with this laptop is absolute garbage.

Follow the directions on that video to get your computer apart and re-paste the cpu and gpu.
