Abysmal benchmark results

So my Area 51 finally arrived today and needless to say something is very wrong.

I ran the fire strike portion of the futuremark benchmark and scored 2221. This result is only better than 17% of the machines that ran the test.

I'm running a i7 5820k processor

8gigs ram

Gtx 980 ti

It is a refurbished system so I'm really concerned whatever the problem was; stilll persists.

I have not make any changes to the system outside of deleting mcafee.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

Is the system experiencing slow performance, crashes or blue screens?

No crashes or blue screens. I started thinking there might be an issue that simplest tasks were taking way too long. For example. Pulling up the nvidia control panel would take 30 sec+ to load. Same as the Alienware command center. I was prompted to run Windows defender and it was only halfway done at the 40 min mark for a quick scan of a 128go ssd. My 5 year old Alienware can run that same scan on a 500gb ssd in under 5 mins.

The future mark benchmark was the final straw. It had the performance of this machine in the bottom 20% of all computers and that includes those with integrated graphics. This is my third Alienware in 7 years and I used to love the product but this refurbished system is causing me concerns. Is there any way with my service tag to possibly see what the original problem was since I'm guessing it's still not fixed?

Thanks for replying

Go into BIOS and set everything to default.

Right click on Desktop and select properties. From there select a display other than Aero. Select a basic Windows theme

Go into and set the video card to lowest quality and re-run your test.

From there move the settings up to an acceptable level.

A software product from AVG is good at setting conputers up for best performance and System Mechanic is also good at cleaning up systems that run poorly.

Thanks for replying.  I wound up pulling the ssd drive and performed a clean install on a new ssd. All is working great now. If there is any way to close this thread please do so. Thanks

Hi,

Send me your Service Tag in a PM so we can check the previous cases. Also, try running an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system, click here to view a Dell article that explains how to do this test. Let us know if you receive any errors.
