Alien autopsy Checkup-Targeted Read Test (Hard drive) failed with error code WHD20-86L
I use an Alienware m17x-r4. Over the past two months, it was behaving weirdly with music stuttering, sudden intermittent lagging in games etc. I used alien autopsy to perform a complete check up the day before yesterday-I've performed it thrice since then...It fails only in one test i.e Targeted Read Test for the Hard Drive...I get the error code WHD20-86L.
I'm unable to find out what the error means I'm worried as the laptop has become progressively worse and now doesn't install windows updates ie when you shutdown the computer, it just stays on updating 1 of 3....without changing (entire night).
Is something wrong with my hard disk?

Hi ashu711,
This error indicates hard drive failure on the computer.
To ensure it’s a hard drive failure, run diagnostics on the computer. Restart the computer by holding the FN and Power button which would run diagnostics on the computer.
Let the diagnostics complete, make a note of the complete error message and post back.
Awaiting your response!

Hi Rajesh, this is the error message that I got:
Error code: 2000-01 42
Validation: 128197
msg: Hard Drive O-S/N 52K8F9ESS
My M17x-R4 is pretty new, I bought around June/July last year...what is going on with it? I'm still able to use the laptop...should I start backing up all my data?

Hi ashu711,
2000-0142 indicates hard drive failure. Even though the computer is working now, the hard drive might die soon.
