Alienware 17 2014 no power.

Hello , I have a Alienware 17 2014 with a A14 BIOS version. Recently I have some problems with the laptop because it's not turning on , not until I remove the battery and the GPU or CPU several times (sometimes I do this for hours). I tried to:

-reset CMOS battery

-changerd COMS battery

-power on without GPU , without RAM or with only the motherboard

-run the ePSA (no errors found)

-cleand all the connections with isopropyl alcohol and then changed the GPU's and CPU's thermal paste

-leave the laptop with no power and press the power button 10 or 30 seconds

-check the battery ,charger and the power button (everything works fine when the laptop starts)

The only thing left is to update my BIOS and I don't know if there is any new BIOS version for my laptop. Afer several minutes or hours of struggle ,when it finally starts I get different error codes (beeps) every time and after that i hold the power button (the computer turns off) and then it start normally like nothing happened. If I don't remove the charger when the laptop is off, it's starting normally after shut down.

Can you please tell me a BIOS solution or if there is anything left to try (I don't want to think that I should change the motherboard or any other component since they work normally when it's on).

Thank you for your time !

I bought a Alienware 17 in 2015, was busy playing game, just died. It is out of warranty.

It does not startup, no Bios , nothing.

when i plug the charger in the charger light goes off.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz

Please advise on course of action or possible solution. Its the same specs as the main post, so i assume it might be the same problem and solution?

I had a similar problem. My fix was to remove the video card and run on the on board Intel chip.-

Looking for a replacement card at the moment.- also the power supply may not be large enough

Hi Grim, do not think you can share extra ram with the on-board video..

My Alien 17 was shipped with a 180 watt power adaptor, after the problems with the video card a message appeared at startup stating the power adaptor was not big enough and it would not charge the battery. It recommended a 240 watt which I purchased. Problem solved, battery charging okay no error msgs but I must plug the charger in before turning on or it switched off, not sure why but I can live with it.

Why they were not shipped with the 240 watt supply in the first place no one can answer or do not want to.

I have just sourced a new video card and waiting for delivery and will see if I can return the system to normal.
