Alienware 17 Broadcom 802.11 ac Wifi issue
I recently bought a brand new Alienware 17. I'm having a lot of issues with the Broadcom wifi, like many other customers before me. My internet connection is unstable with many random disconnections from the router. The problem is not coming from my wireless network; my other computers are not suffering from the same issue. I already looked on the forum and followed the different methods to fix my problem :
- reinstalling the driver
- updating the driver
- changing settings in advance settings
- locking my Wifi router on one channel
- installing the lenovo as some users report fixing the problem (
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/736194-fix-broadcom-4352-performance-issues.html )
For a brand new computer, I am extremely disappointed to not be able to use a wifi internet connection with all these random disconnections. Is there any other way to fix the problem other than buying a half mini card wlan or to return the computer for a refund?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I too just purchased an Alienware 17 and am having massive drops in internet connection, my usual download rate is something like 1500+ kbs on my Lenovo thinkpad but now it keeps fluctuating between 100-300 kbs on my Alienware (I too have followed all the steps you have tried.) which is atrocious if your trying to download a game! Im in half a mind of returning my machine.
Please if anyone has any advice I'll take it !
EDIT(Solution for me): I just went into Device manager- Network adaptors - Broadcom 802.11ac network adaptor - Properties - Advanced settings - Then disabled WWM and haypresto my download rate shot through the roof !

Hi!
Try the troubleshooting steps on this article, Solution#6 for stability issues.
I also recommend you check for interference using inSSIDer to verify the level of EM noise. For more detailed information on this application and other tips to improve your Wireless connection, go here.
Let me know how it goes.

upgrading to the OS that it wasn't shipped with dosent void warranty but since it didn't ship with it you need to revert back to original OS for support, since problem may be caused due to your upgrade .. its the same when upgrading parts..
Dell is not required to support anything on your machine that it didn't ship with this is reason I keep original 1tb drive and original OS on it for my M18X .. so if issues arise I revert back ..

Apparently upgrading from windows 8.1 to 8.1 pro voided my warranty, but I am having the same problem with the broadcom network adapter. Never will I buy a dell or alienware again. I bought the brand for its customer support to find out upgrading windows nulls that support and I am stuck with a brick that can run office or desktop that needs to be plugged into the ethernet.
Disappointed beyond words.

I was going to suggest that but you beat me to it. You likely want an new SSD (for OS) anyway.
You can also just Image Backup the drive with a good dependable Imaging program (that support bare-metal restores). But spare drive is faster and a little more fool-proof.

Just wanted to say after my long search of trying to fix this problem, (approx 4 months and 2 calls to Dell) that my problem appears to be fixed thanks to this solution.
thank you Switish!

This might come in here late as you might have already resolved the issue. I had exactly the same problem. My warranty was just one year and guess what, it started dropping connections at first, then more and more. Reinstalling drivers would help a little for a short while, using Alien Respawn (by the way I love it!) helped few times. To cut the story short what I ended up doing is this. Opening my Alienware 17 and reseating the WiFi card. While attempting to do that the white cable that connects antenna simply snapped off the coax connection on the WiFi board! Apparently it was poorly soldered in first place. It is so small that it's simply impossible for me to solder it back. I checked the pricing and you can find these for about 45 CAD on various sites. In the mean time I took a Realtek wifi/bt combo from another computer and successfuly installed it.
This is really not in favour of Alienware production at Dell.
In a nutshell, when you have wifi issues like that where it works and drops and stops etc, I suggest reseating the card then go from there.
Thanks!
