Alienware 17 R2 's graphic card got problem, pls helpp!!!

so today i just received my laptop from dell, i was so excited to tried it out. Everything was ran smoothly at the beginning, then i installed nvidia 's driver ( new one) and then i played GTA 5, it was ran smoothly for 10 minutes then it crashed and at a corner of the desktop, it popped up a message and it said : Nvidia driver has stopped and sucessful recovery then after 2 minutes , my laptop it automaticlly shut down and  blue screen showed up with a message it said : DCP_Watchdog_violation. I tried to recovery my lap via dell recovery and this time i tried installed a driver from dell support, everything was okay but after i played gta 5 like 5 minutes then it crashed again and a blue screen show up again but this time it said : video_tdr_failure . So right now what is going on my lap? it about a graphic driver or about my graphic card??

This is exactly the same as what I had when I first bought my 17R2. Bsods, driver recovery errors. freezing, crashing.

I had to contact Alienware support and they diagnosed a problem with the GPU and optimus switching. so they sent a tech out to replace the motherboard next day.

All is well now except the wake from sleep throttle but that's another story.

There is nothing you will be able to solve yourself other than contacting Alienware I am afraid.

Good luck

Same here, exact same problem. It's not a hardware failure it's a driver issue. Go to dell and download the driver on the drivers page, don't update to the nivida version. Soon as I updated the driver started crashing over and over in the span of minutes, stop for a moment and resume again. Just wait for the next driver and skip that one all together.

Best of luck.
