Alienware 17 r4 constantly chiming

Try a clean boot to see if there is any application or program that is producing the sound and thus try to isolate it.

Is it usb plugged / unplugged installing driver chime?

Have you set the power manangement to sleep after 480 minutes or never instead of every 20 minutes or less which is the default for windows 10.

Thank you for your responses.  I decided to take the slacker's route.  I found the sound in system settings and disabled it.  Again, thanks for your help.

I also had the same problem until I completely shut down the computer and it went away.

I have powered down and I'm still getting that blasted chime!  Do you have any other suggestions? 

I've gone through all the apps in settings and turned off the sound and it's still chiming!! Do you remember what specifically was turned on under the Sound Settings?

I fixed it this way.  Control panel; Appearance and Personalization ; Personalization ; at the bottom, "sound" then drop down box "sound scheme" choose "no sound" at least i don't hear that chiming sound anymore. 

You are the second one to report you fixed it this way.
 
However, this barely qualifies as a work-around, and no where near a fix.
 
If it was my new machine, I certainly would not stop here. Sounds to me like a driver or motherboard problem. If the chime you hear is the same as inserting/removing a flash drive ... it sound like a problem with the USB ports or internal USB hubs.

Yes, if it was my new, recent, high-dollar purchase and Alienware Phone Support could not resolve the issue non-evasively (like with a BIOS update or driver install) ...

... I would proceed with an out-right return and request a refund (and be sure they knew why).

You are absolutely right it wasn't a fix but more like a temporarily way to resolve this annoying sound from happening.  My laptop is two weeks old and under warranty so is going back to get that issues taking care of.

I also had a question mark on the network wifi driver. I clicked update and it went away. That might have been it who knows. Ether way I returned the laptop because it lagged in 4k games. And the screen for a 4k machine I felt it's not the best quality. Especially when it's close to $3000 machine. 

I like slightly high DPI screens as much as the next guy, but 4K at 17 inches seems un-needlessly excessive.

Did it look ok when run at a low res?

Did you buy it to run a larger external screen?

Well I just get off the phone with a Alienware tech support. After running an update on my laptop we reset it to factory and so far it seems to have resolved the issues.

I though I would let everyone on this topic know.

It looks ok. The problem it's not bright enough for my liking. 

I bought it to do all of the above. But if stand alone doesn't look good enough for my games, movies and all my music, video and photo editing then there is no point of external monitor. Because why not just build a desktop at that point. 

I loved everything about this laptop except the screen. Build quality seems amazing, the led light are beautiful, the keyboard keys are great. Although I didn't like the 2 click buttons for the pad. They sound weird when you click from the top of the button versus when you click the full button. 

I would buy this laptop again in a heart beat if I'm convinced the screen is better.

Yeah, it's hard to find a good all-around high-performance laptop these days. I used to carry a Dell Precision Mobile Workstation and really liked it. I would say check those, but I don't think they come with "gaming class" video cards. However, I bet they DO have an option for nice, high-DPI, IPS-based screens (with good colors, brightness, and viewing angles).

All the manufacturers need to do is walk into an Apple store and look at the Retina panel on MacBook Pro or iPad Pro ... that's what pro-sumers want (and some are even willing to pay for it). Unfortunately, we live in a world were computer buyers are obsessed with low-prices and so they are building most computers to be "good enough" (to keep prices down).

If you find something, please try to let us know. But I think you might have to compromise on built-in display (since it's only for lite portable use anyway) . Get yourself nice, high-end desktop monitor and peripherals where you do your real work.
