Alienware 18 - Wireless connection issues - Adapter or Router?
Hoping there is someone who can give me some feedback:
Love this machine Alienware 18 (Win 7 Ultimate/Intel i7/32 Ram - bought for graphics work) however the 1st one I received had LED failure and network connection issues. Just received my replacement: lights work (it is all about image) but once again I cannot connect wirelessly to my network. I did manage to connect on the network on the first machine ONLY after a tech connected with my machine remotely. (Must have been a goosing).
So: I have a Netgear WNDR4000 (have added the laptop mac address) interfacing with Comcast ARRIS TM722G modem. Have 2 wireless networks setup: (2.4GHz b/g/n) and (5GHz a/n). I don't know if there are settings needed to be changed on the adapter (Broadcom 802.11ac Ver. 6.30.223.181.) Would prefer to be able to connect to 5G network.
Suggestions? Delaying a call to tech support although the support has been great for Alienware. (Dell is another story...)
Not sure if this is an adapter or router issue.
Thank you!

I believe if you go into the router setup it allows you to create separate SSID's for the 2.4 Ghz and the 5 Ghz. Then you can connect to either one.

Hi!
I recommend you try to connect to a different network to determine if the problem is the router or the laptop. If it connects to other networks the problem might be with the settings you're using on your router. You should try changing the setup so it only runs on one network (either use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks. I ended up resetting the router to original settings and setting it up again. Finally have 5GHz connection!
