Alienware Area 51 Fan

Alienware Area 51 Fan

Hi, I need assistance in trying to get my fan to quiet down. I have an older system that still runs exceptional well and love it but I noticed that when I got it they had the CPU pump and Pump fan plugged into the incorrect locations in which I was getting the Pump Failure and 0 System Fan readings

I already tried to uninstall/reinstall the Command Center and Cycle the memory down with it powered down and unplugged and holding the power button 25 seconds.

This is latest version that is available for my system. Tried the 3.5 and it didn't match my system profile.

My Bios which is said to be up to date.

Okay, the good news is the Pump is working now, plugged into the CPU LC PUMP and the Bios did update mine to the new Bios 11,    Fan is still running high.. wondering if I should uninstall the CC, cycle it down again by holding the power button for 1 Min. and reinstall it.20160212_092453 (Large).jpg

Hope this video comes out.. it's just after I switched the CPU Fan plug to it's correct location and after the Bios update.. the fan that is on high is the top shroud fan under the top fins. Just reinstalled the Command Center, couldn't find any links to download the Alienware AlienFX Tester.exe. Any one have it?

See my post here:

http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19454040

Area51-R1 can run a bootable copy of Dell Diagnostics (outside of Windows) just like an Aurora R1 can. It will test your MIO-Board and it's connected devices. You should be able to determine if your hardware is working properly or not. If it is, you have a Windows software problem.

Area51-R1 is only validated to run Win7-64 and Command Center 2.8.9.0 . Anything above that (of either), and you are on your own (just like us Aurora-R1 users).

I can try to see if I can do that too.. here is one I just finished through the Dell website with their "DellDetect" software. Seems everything passed..

as of now I uninstalled the Command Center and will do another cycling down. I'm curious if I got everything plugged in the right place.. I checked all the wirings. all looks good so far.

Downloaded Speedfan and MSI afterburner, none seem to be able to control the top fan.

See full scan results.

1. I can try to see if I can do that too..

2. here is one I just finished through the Dell website with their "DellDetect" software.

1. Good

2. That is not a substitute for the proper one

3. Correct, they likely don't

You see the 4inch x 6inch MIO-Board controller board in there right? It's an independent controller ... sorta like a board your might find inside a router or printer.

Okay, I booted into the Bios and couldn't find a self diagnostic to run.. am I missing something? Sorry, one's blurry.

Okay so I started the procedure... took a while to complete and I wanted to be very thorough in the documentation and translating it onto this thread and how the Diagnostic found out.

Tested the memory too.. thank God it passed.

Click "Custom Test: button

Master IO USB Device

CPU Fan on/off

- This test will speed up and slow down System/Radiator fan. Mine shows between 1200-4000 rpm

- - You might have to exit Diags and reboot to get fan speed back down to normal.

There is another test right below it that will show stats on all sensors/fans. Maybe run that one first. In this test, the "CPU Fan" is correctly called "System Fan".

You can also play with the lights while in there to make sure the MIO-Board is working.

Details about each test:

Sensors Test
-------------
- System Fan (Correct name for Radiator fan)
PWM 100 , RPM 1188

- CPU Pump
PWM 100 , RPM 1404

- the above are correct, but I notice some others are incorrect or miss-placed.
A newer diags software version might have fixes. This is the old version loaded on my Aurora back in 2009.

CPU Fan Test (Incorrect name for System/Radiator fan)
------------
RPMs should be 1200-4000
On-Off test will work (low to high) but might leave fan on high and require a reboot to get back down to normal

Master IO USB Device
-------------------
This test is at the very bottom (might have to scroll down) ... but only if the MIO-Board is detected and not locked up
