Alienware Area-51 Motherboard
Hi everyone, I have an Area-51 system that has is all original. System has the X58 chipset MB, Intel Corei7 960 @ 3.2GHZ, 6GB's Triple Channel RAM, ATI 5970, X-Fi SC, 1TB HDD & a DVD Burner.
My question is, I'd like to install a new MB, CPU and RAM. I got a screaming deal on a new MB (ASrock Z77 OC Formula LGA 1155 Z77) a Core i7 3770 Ivy-Bridge 1155 CPU and 16GB's Corsair DDR3
I know these parts will physically fit in the tower because I measured. The only thing I am concerned about is proprietary connectors that may be on the old MB and not on the new. I looked over the OEM MB really well and didn't see anything that would not hookup/plugin to the new MB.
Other than having the USB headers and SATA connectors in a slightly different location, everything else is pretty much the same.
I know it's hard to be sure everything is going to work, but has anyone done this ? or see any reason why it wouldn't work ?

Hello Kresto,
Short version is everything will fit and work but you may have issues with the lights and fans. If they don't work at first try moving the MIO board USB to another USB port on the motherboard. You can also try a different firmware version on the MIO board. Don't try changing the PSU, the Dell PSU has a 10-pin power connector for the MIO board that is only found on Dell PSU's.

Modular Input/Output or Master Input/output. People also call them a Master Control Board. If you ever hear front IO or rear IO panel it stands for Input/Output too.
