Alienware FX not working on my Alienware 14

I recently had to reinstall windows on my Alienware 14. I have since run all the necessary updates and drivers, however after my last batch of updates, my Alienware FX will not turn on. The lights on the keyboard, mousepad, the alienware logo, etc, will only come one when I switch the color palette, and during start up, but only for a split second. Occasionally, the Alienware command center will notify me that I have a an "unsupported chassis".

FYI I am running Windows 7 on this one.

Thanks for any and all help!

Hi,

Uninstall and reinstall the Command Center:

1- Go to the Control Panel, look for the Alienware Command Center application and uninstall it.

2- Turn the system off.

3- Disconnect the battery and the AC adapter for a power drain. Then press and hold the power button of the system for 45 seconds, reconnect the battery again and close the system.

4- Then download the Alienware Command Center and Install it. Restart one more time. Click here for the support website. Make sure you choose your OS accordingly and look for the software on the Applications Tab.

Hello, thanks for the information. I followed the steps and unfortunately this did not solve the problem. I am no longer seeing "unsupported chassis" though.

F12 – Enable/Disable AlienFX: Press + to enable or disable AlienFX.

Make sure the OSD (on screen display) driver is installed.

Unfortunately the enabling hotkey only turns on the lights for a split second. The OSD application is installed and updated as well. Still the same problem.

In the right corner of the Windows taskbar, you may have a little alien head icon. If you right click on that icon, you should see some options there. One of the options is "Dim Lighting Zones". Try clicking on that option to see what happens. We have a Dell article that explains different settings that you can check when there are problems with the AlienFX lights.
