Alienware M17x R4 doesn't start on battery alone?
Without the AC adapter being plugged in, the M17x-R4 starts but when enters to windows just turns off. Being plugged works perfectly. I bought an extra battery to see if was the battery actually but the problem stills the same. Another thing i notice if i start plugged and then i unplugged the power cable, the laptop still works. So is this a problem with the starting thats all? i think could be maybe graphics. i don't know really any suggestion? or idea? cuz is very frustrating needs to find a socket or plugs in anyplace i go to start to work with.

Eheieh,
* Turn the laptop off
* Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery from the laptop
* Hold the laptop power button in for 30 seconds
* Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter
* Connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the laptop
* Turn the external monitor on
* Switch the laptop on
* The laptop should boot up and engage the external monitor. Now, if the laptop display shuts off, does the external monitor shut off?

You cannot turn off the laptop screen.
When you turn on your laptop on battery mode with the external monitor plugged in, would you have any video?

When you unplug your AC adapter, your computer runs only on battery, this is what karen refers to as Battery Mode.
What they're asking you to do is to unplug the AC adapter, and try to turn on your computer (unplugged) with an external monitor connected.
Please try that and let us know if the laptop turns off when running on battery even after the power drain recommended by Chris.
**Power Drain:
* Turn the laptop off
* Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery from the laptop
* Hold the laptop power button in for 30 seconds
* Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter
*Turn the laptop on

If the computer is not turning on at all while in battery and you have tried the above steps, I would suggest to replace the battery.
