Alienware TactX Mouse Left Click Problem

Hello,

I've been enjoying my Alienware system since I've purchased it.  Recently though my mouse has been giving me trouble where it double-clicks when it shouldn't, or it thinks I've released the mouse button when dragging items around when I haven't.  I've seen posts elsewhere on the forums with folks having the same problem.

I called tech support today to try and have my mouse repaired.  Apparently even though I opted for extra warranty service, accessories such as the mouse and keyboard aren't covered for more than 1 year.  My first year of warrany was up in August apparently.  The rep admitted that my mouse does need replacing but there isn't anything that can be done.  I've tried the mouse in other computers and had the same problem. Other mice plugged into the Alienware system work fine.  I've removed/reinstalled the drivers off the Resource disc as well as tried using the default Windows drivers.

This is pretty pathetic in my opinion.  An Alienware TactX mouse sells for $79.99 plus tax off the website, and it only lasts for just over a year?  I've had mice that I've paid $10 for last for 8 years.  Another that cost $30 last for 8 years.  I don't casually use my computer/mouse either, I use them every day doing a wide variety of tasks from web surfing to gaming sessions to drawing.

Anyone have any tips on how I can fix this mouse?  I know it's just an accessory, but if this is a reflection of how Alienware support really is, I'm worried for when something major happens.

Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

Well, my mouse was out of the warranty period. However they made an accommodation and replaced it with a new one with the stipulation that the new mouse wouldn't have a warranty. So I'd suggest calling them ASAP if you haven't already

Is replacement the only solution? I'm having the same issue - repeated left clicks, or the mouse releasing a click while trying to drag an item. I really like the mouse, but $80 for another item that will only last me another 14 months is a little steep.

I'm having the same problem with my Alienware TactX Mouse, the left mouse button spontaneously "misfires" while trying to perform a drag, and has started intermittently double clicking instead of single clicking.

It's a shame because this mouse has been fantastic otherwise, but the LMB problem is incredibly annoying.

Is there any way I can get a replacement?

Mine is doing the same thing.  My warranty expired about a week ago.  It started a few months ago but it was very very rare, but now it's doing it every 3rd or 4th click.  What can I do about it?

What is the problem that you are having with the DVD drive?

Have you tried updating the driver for the TactX mouse?

Hello lukas,

I now completely understand what you're saying.

I've had my rig since the Christmas of 2010-11, and I bought a magnificent desktop with the TactX Keyboard and mouse as it only seemed fitting and I heard great reviews on all my purchases. However, I was never told about the "plague" that seems to affect an increasing majority of TactX mice. Starting during the past week, I noticed my mouse would double-click, and that was most evident during my gaming sessions. I figured it was an odd occurrence and came straight to the forums to see what the issue was. Now that I'm more aware and have gained more knowledge of the matter, I can't help but feel disappointed. As one of the original posters stated, I've had $20 mice last twice as long as this and longer, therefore my expectations of this product (~$79.00) had a high bar set already. Proceeding these events, I cannot say I've had a single complaint about my entire purchase, as I would of assumed after effectively shelling out $3,500 for what I had heard to be "high quality". And my system by far is, except for this blemish caused by this mouse. It's a very crucial component to gaming, therefore it does see every day use, but nothing exceeding any previous mice. There seems to be no repair for such problem, and the closest I've come to circumventing this is by clicking near the end of the mouse but that's only temporary as that position is not natural for my hand. The double-click itself occurs when pressure is applied anywhere but the very tip of the left button, making it near impossible to personally adjust to.

All I ask for is assistance with this one addition to my gaming masterpiece. I've recommended this product to many a person and I can't start giving out bad reviews now.

Thanks in advance for any help, hope to hear from you guys soon!
