Alienware x51 5.1sound
So I've done my x51 for about two years now. It's comes factory with a realtek sound card that apparently isn't compatible with 5.1 audio. My girlfriend bought me this ridiculously expensive sound system that is 5.1 surround sound. I want to get the most out of it. Are there are sound card upgrades or work arounds?

Blizo123no ... it should be compatible...you have ur 3.5mm audio jacks...ur optical output...ur coaxial output and ur hdmi - which outputs video and audio. Depending on what ur new sound system has as inputs...if expensive like you say....should have hdmi options...coaxial...and optical options. Ur optical and coaxial outputs are just above the hdmi output.

Something USB-based like this:

or

or a cheaper work-alike (not suggested unless reviews are good, driver support, etc.).
By the time you bought expensive speaker system and this ... would have been better/cheaper to buy a small Home-Theater-In-a-Box (HTiB) and run it via HDMI ... just sayin.
