Alienware x51 power supply and upgrade problem

Hello

I recently bought the base model alienware x51, with the core i3 and the gt 545. This one came with only the 240 watt PSU, and i'm wondering if a can upgrade to the following parts without buying the 330 Watt PSU:

- The i3 will be upgraded to an i5 3570 (non K) i do know this i5 has a max wattage of 77 watts

- The GT 545 will be upgraded to the EVGA GTX 650 Ti 2GB SSC

i am also buying an extra 4 gigs of ram but i didn't include that because it probably will not add any watts, if not very little.

So i am wondering if i can upgrade to these parts for Christmas without buying the 330 watt psu. And, if possible, could a difference in wattage from my current setup to the upgraded setup be included?

Maybe not, the 650ti uses 105 watts, the gtx545 uses 105 watts also.

But, going from the i3 (65w) to the i5 (77w) might cause the problems.

You could give it a shot, if it doesnt work then buy a new psu, or you could just go with the 650ti and leave the i3.

Now, you could upgrade to the new i3 3225, it only uses 55w, but it wouldnt be too big of a upgrade.

I actually have the gtx650ti ssc in my x51 along with the i5 3570k cpu. But I also have the 330 watt psu.

When I did the swap, I turned on the computer and it instantly shut down, I turned it on again and it did it again. 3rd time it fired right up and has been great ever since.

the 650ti I feel is a very good budget upgrade, I had the gtx555.

The nice thing with the 650ti is that its alot smaller than the stock gpus these computer came with, so there is a fair amount of extra space now near the front mounted fan. Temps stay nice and cool.

As a quick note, make sure you get the evga version of the 650ti, it has the correct style of fan. The zotac version doesnt blow air out the back of the computer, it just blows it back into the case.

Did the PSU mod due to the X51 rebooting all the time. Peace of cake now i can play far cry 3 @ 2560x1600 with no reboots and temps are around the 60c range Video below http://goo.gl/7lZl0
