top card has 14 and 15

bottom card has 16 and 17

No I don't have computer restart issues. I do have issues where sometimes a game will freeze, flash to a black screen, and come back to the game though. Don't know if it has to do with this connector setup.

I have a pair of 5870's, not 4870's so again I don't have the P14 and P15 connectors. I only have P16,P17,P18,P19 connectors. All the connectors look the same except P16 and P18 look to have more wires running through them then the P17 and P19 connectors.

I guess I'm a little confused by the 2x3 and 2x4 connector lingo that you use.

Do this so we can see your PC specifications.

A quick question.

You mention for the Area-51 system under dual to use the 2x4 P19 and 2x3 P21 connector for the top card and the 2x4 P17 and 2x3 P20 connector for the bottom card.

I currently have a pair of 2x5870's in crossfire. I use P16 and P17 connectors for the top card and P18 and P19 for the bottom card. I don't have a P20 or P21 connector. Does it matter?

Is the point of this thread to verify that each card has a 2x3 and 2x4 connector for proper voltages? If so does it matter which order I connect them to my 5870? (2x3 on the left and 2x4 on the right or vice versa?)

Are you having the restart issue configured that way? Based on the 4870s, it should be:
Dual 2x3 connector P14/P16, 2x4 connector P15/P17

Please take a look at my signature and see if you can help me with this. I want to make sure I have the proper connections on my GPU's and that I don't blow em.

Heres what it looks like in my computer right now:

GPU1 (Top card - ATI 5870) P16 on the left connection ,P17 on the right connection

GPU2 (bottom card - ATI 5870) P18 on left connection, P19 on the right connection

P16 and P17 are colored yellow and black

P18 and P19 are colored blue and black

They are writing up the Area-51 document now. When I get it, I will post it.

cris i just put in a gtx 960 card last friday,,,i have it hooked up to the p17 connector...(6+2pin on the card)

today i got a bluescreen and then went in to repair screen so i did that and finally came to desktop.

i been noticing one beep at startup since the new card,,,,,,,should i have it connected to the p15 connector..

hey by the way Windows is coming out with Windows 10. Do you know if drivers are going to be made   for it

Well that's what I've been told that Windows 8.1 drivers will work.
But I am old-school and previous Windows when they first come out always had drivers issues. I hate to install Windows 10 on my machine and find out certain things won't work as a drivers are not compatible, so that's why I was asking the question

My personal opinion ...

On machines from the past few years, it should "mostly work".

When we are talking about every little piece of hardware (100% device compatibility with Windows-10) in each different Alienware computer ...

... I think certified Windows 8.1 (64bit) machines will have a better chance. Most Win 8.1 drivers should work on Win-10, plus you have driver updates directly from Microsoft via Windows Update.

Unique Dell hardware devices (like MIO-Boards and circuits) will likely require the most attention. I doubt new drivers will be written for discontinued machines. I say this from experience ... it's not like this is the first time Microsoft has released a new OS, and customers are asking these same questions.
