Area-51 Problem Installing HD 6990

I'm looking to upgrade my Graphics Card to Radeon HD 6990. This card requires two 8-pin connectors.

I have P16 and P18 Cables, both have one 6-pin connection and one 6-pin with additional  2-pin connection.

Can I take both P16 and P18 and connect the 6-pin with additional  2-pin  to the Radeon HD 6990 8-pin connectors?

Did you look in your case real good for extra power plugs?  As for useing a 6 pin and the 2 pin that is fine. That is how I  have my 2 X 5970's  the power is supplied by 1x6 pin  & 1X 2 pin for each vidio card.  From what I gather you only have 1 X 2 pin plug only enough to feed 1 card correct? Also remember most high end vidio cards come with a few different  power plugs.

Id like to know how you can run 2 X 6990 cards in the area 51 machine (in crossfire mode).

You need 4 X 8 pin connectors to run in crossfire mode. Unfortunately i only have 2 X 8 pin & 2 X 6 pin connectors. Does anyone know if all the 6990 video cards come with the 6 pin to 8 pin converter adapters?

Thanks

If you have the 1200w PSU then it has 4 cables that can power the 8 pins on the GPU. The 1100w may have to power to run them too but you would need an adapter to convert one of the cables from the 6-pin to the 8-pin.

Do you know if the video card manufacturers supply the 6 pin to 8 pin converter adapters when purchasing the 6990 video cards? I think i'll need these/

Sometimes they come with adapters. To know for sure you would need to look up the card you want and see what it comes with.
