Aurora R4 overheating problem SOLVED!!!

I posted few days ago about my  aurora overheating problem but got no real answer... So i decided to find the problem by myself and look what i found ...

My theory was that my pump wasnt working because 1 hose ( the out ) was really getting hot ( almost can't touch it ) and the intake was cold.

So i removed my entire watercooling systems

the inside pump liquid was full no problem here

The input right side...  no problem

1307.input.jpg

And finaly ... the problem the output of the liquid was complety blocked by that gelly thing

So i cleaned all this with alcool, putted new thermal paste on CPU and here we go [:O]

Before

After

So i hope this thread will help someome because i did alot of search and found nothing that helped me.

And i got a question for alienware support wasnt the watercooling system was suppose to be maintenance free ??

This look like a bad quality watercooling liquid ! And its not old i bought my comp in june 2012 so warranty ended 1 month ago ...

I'm having this same problem.  I have the Cooling system out and am having a hell of a time getting the middle silver part out to check to see if it's plugged.  Do you have any advice on how to do this without losing all the coolant and or destroying the seal edges?  Thank you!

Currently can't get the drivers to install for the corsair link thing for the h80i that's the only issue I'm having right now... anything special you did.

well the install went really well... temps are not at 60c at full load very impressive considering it is the 3930k... that is at overclock of 4.3ghz as well... h80i fits very well for all of those who are considering the aftermarket route! Thanks Truckin!

I have the R4 of course with the cooling system that everybody's talking about

mine hasn't failed yet so how do I get mine replaced before it does

 mine is still under warrant

Good question as I am in the same situation. I have had mine 13 months, but have the 3 year extended warranty so the cost is not an issue for me. Dell is aware of the problem, but unlike auto makers are not about to do a recall and replace the Asetek liquid cooling system before for it fails. I talked to the Alienware tech support a few months ago and asked if all the R4s have the Asetek brand cooling system installed that are failing. He said they had heard about the problem, but there was no way of knowing what liquid cooling system was in them by the tag number or the date of manufacture. I found that a little strange. I guess we can only wait until it fails or be proactive and replace it at our cost before it does fail.

I happen to agree with you I've been bitten too many times.

If Dell isn't going to do anything about it,  what are we supposed to do,

wait until are systems  burn up from overheating!

I don't think so I paid good money for this

I posted earlier here when I had the same problem under 1Oldwarrior, there was no way I was going to replace the R4 cooling setup with the same unit from Alienware even if it had been under warranty, if I were you folks that are replacing their units under warranty with the same unit I would reconsider that seriously.

Once bitten twice shy has been my policy since childhood and that policy has served me very well.

Well that's too bad you would think they would replace the cooling system since there are so many people have problems with it, in the long run it could cost them more

guess I'll just have to wait for mine to fail and then probably go out and buy what everybody else is buying the H55 and install it myself

1oldwarrior. You make a excellent point. Even though Dell/Alienware knows about the problem with these coolers they are more than likely using the same pieces of junk as replacements that will fail again in X number of months. When mine fails, which I am sure it will, I will buy the corsair H55, install it myself and be done with it. As I said in earlier post " You buy and pay for a Rolls Royce and get Yugo parts in it ". Sure not the way Alienware started out and puts a big dent in the Alienware name.

Absolutely amazing.

I am yet another customer who has an Alienware Aurora R4 that's about a year and a half old, warranty now run out, whose PC has suddenly turned into the world's loudest vacuum cleaner. Updated my BIOS and all those things with no improvement, now I find this thread. Boy, do I feel let down by Dell/Alienware. This is clearly the kind of widespread defect that should cause a recall or at least some minimal customer service response! I'm about to take my PC apart, which makes me nervous because I'm not that tech savvy, and start yanking out my coolant system. Rolls Royce price with Yugo parts someone said? Let's find out...

Hi docjonel if you've never been inside of the computer before swapping out parts, I wouldn't recommend you doing so, either find somebody with little more experience or take it to your local computer store and have them do it. Especially when you're dealing with the processor it's very sensitive if you damage the processor you'll be done. Just a little friendly advice

If you have never taken a computer apart you should get somebody to assist you that has. It's not real hard, but can be tricky. I agree with you about the recall because there are way too many people having this same problem with their R4s. The Dell liaison, Chris M said in another post that there wasn't enough of the cooling systems being replaced in the field for Dell/Alienware (Don't know the exact words he used) but sounded to me like Dell wouldn't worry or even care about the problem and your on your own. Chis has been a help to me on other problems since buying my R4, but would like to know if he has been pushing harder to higher ups with what's going on and how dissatisfied people are with this? Also who else from Dell/Alienware read these posts?. Buy the Corsair H55 liquid cooling system, Newegg has it for $64.99. Install that and not what Alienware want's to sell you or you will be replacing it again in 14 months.
