can I force a higher resolution than native?
I'm having trouble running a game that I had set to 1900x1200 (running to an external monitor). I'm on a trip and can't access the external monitor,
I forgot to switch the rez back to the native 1366x768 in game and now when I try to run it, it won't display.
I thought if I could set the laptop screen to 1900x1200 temporarily, go ingame and change the rez to 1366x768, that might work.

What game?
Sometimes you can set game res. with an external game supplied utility.
Sometimes you can start game in a game's "safe mode" or with certain "command line switches" that over-ride the res. set inside the game.
And no ... I don't think you can get the desktop res. higher than native or max ... the LCD just can't handle it.

If the game support "command line switches" on a normal retail install ... you can enter them into Steam and they work.
Properties, General, Launch Options
Again, it just depends on which game it is.
I have also modified .ini files (etc.) on Steam games and it works.

Ok,thought it was worth a shot. It's Steam based so I can't get to the .exe or any game files to manually change the res. I'll just have to wait until I get to a bigger monitor I guess. Thx anyway.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't see where I have a 'launch options' selection. And I don't know where Steam parks the individual .ini files for games. I poked around in the Steam folder but only found proprietary extensions. Any direction would be most appreciated!

There's a reason you keep getting asked what game it is, it's different for each one.
Usually each game's files are stored in *\Steam\SteamApps\Common* <-something to that extent. Some games store things in documents folders or users folders. Each one is different. If you don't let anyone know what game you're talking about, no one can help you.
The launch options is in the right click Properties window of each game.
