CPU and GPU upgrade to play Witcher 3

I have an M17x Alienware with a Intel Core i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz and two GPUs 1: AMD Radeon HD8970  and 2: Intel HD Graphics 4600. I want to replace the Radeon with a Nvidia Gforce GTX 780 8gb card and a cpu that runs at 3.50GHZ. Can this be done?

  1. There's no such thing as a GTX 780 8 GB, nor does there exist a GTX 780m 8 GB.
  2. However, the GTX 780m and, and I think this is the GPU you meant, the GTX 880m are compatible with the 17 R1. Their performance is about as good as a GTX 660 ti / GTX 760.
  3. Well, you can get a CPU that turbos to 3.5 GHz on all four cores. With the CPU you have, you can upgrade to at least an i7-4800MQ. The i7-4900MQ or i7-4910MQ would be preferable, though.
  4. You'll need to get some thermal paste. I suggest either Gelid Extreme or IC Diamond.
  5. You can buy all of this on ebay. Eurocom and upgrademonkey sells GPU kits that include thermal paste. They do't sell CPUs, though.
