Dead Touchpad on Alienware M14x R2

Hello all,

Yesterday the touchpad on my Alienware M14x R2 randomly stopped responding and I haven't been able to get it working again.

Here is what I tried:

1. FN+ Insert. Touchpad goes "on" and "off" but still no responsiveness.

2. Restarting the computer. No change.

3. Uninstalling the Alienware Command Center and Synaptics Pointing Device Driver then installing the most recently released versions from Dell's website.

My laptop is about 14 months old and my software warranty has run out, so I'm trying all available resources before paying to have Dell resolve it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi kellyiswicked,

Appreciate your technical expertise in trying so many steps to try fixing the issue. It looks like you have tried everything now the only option is you may try connecting a known good external USB mouse (if available) and check if it works.

If it works then touchpad has failed and needs to be replaced. If this doesn’t work then please try in different USB ports and with other USB devices like flash drive, USB keyboard, etc. to check if the USB drive itself is faulty. Also make sure that you have enabled touchpad by Pressing  'Fn' key + 'INSERT' key to enable or disable the touchpad.

You may then use the below link and check warranty status:

If the computer is out of warranty you may contact the out of warranty repairs team on 18002884410 (U.S only). They can help you further.

If the computer is in warranty you may send me the system service tag via private message. I will check and see what can be done.
