Downgrade WIN 10 to WIN 8/8.1

I purchased AW 17R3 which came with WIN 10 installed. Prefer WIN 8.1.. Do I have downgrade rights since DELL/AW installed (OEM).? Does the AW/Dell Co have install/setup disks, etc.? I have an older 8.1 version from a dead laptop, that could be used. Tried to reach AW directly to no avail.

Dell won't provide you with anything outside of what came with the computer.  Since your new computer came with 10, they will only provide windows 10.  As for discs in general, Dell stopped providing those mid 2000's.  They do have download links for all the up to date drivers, and a new image restore system you can use to restore your computer.

As for legalities of suggested options, I'm not a *** just telling you my experiences :-).  I don't know if its 'legal' or not, some licenses allow you to transfer windows from one PC to another PC, as long as the first PC is dead and no longer used.  Others are 'hard locked' to the first PC it is installed on, even though Microsoft makes it easy to transfer it over anyway (weird I know).  You can still buy Windows 8.1 if you'd like, or if that makes you more comfortable.

Unless you have a pro version of windows with downgrade rights to windows 8.x, you will not be able to  downgrade the OS.  IF you have the OS Key from the old computer, you could 'transfer' it to your new one, however I would make sure you have the drivers for it first.  Also i'm not 100 percent sure how legal it is to transfer, but I've done it a million times so no biggie.

No, that is not allowed.

As you know ... Win-10 is the latest version of Windows-8.1. I wonder why you would want an old version of Windows OS on your new machine?

He stated "I purchased AW 17R3 which came with WIN 10 installed. Prefer WIN 8.1".  8.1 isn't that bad imho.  Its kinda nice to have all your programs and apps in one place in front of you.

I have various OEM copies that I used to upgrade prev, laptops.  I was hoping DELL would have info. and install disks. I have a Lenovo that they provided a complete install/reinstall disks with drivers. I would like to keep it legal. Thanks.
