graphics amplifier
Good evening,
I'm having a hard time figuring out if my card in the amp is running or am i still on the internal one, here is why...
I plug the cable in my laptop, i start up my laptop. Everything seems to be doing ok, the card in the amp starts running, laptop boots up normally. but then when i see in the device manager there are 2cards in there which is normal.
But when i run for example a benchmark it uses the internal one where is the amp card does not get benchmarked.
So i'm not sure if the amp card is working or not. it stays one 25 degrees where the internal one is getting hot, it is like the amp card is not being used?
is there a way i could see which one is being used?
kind regards
Kenneth

Hi Kennethdw,
What's your system model and revision?
Let me know what video cards you have (on the laptop and on the amplifier) and also which ones you see in device manager.

Hey Eimy , we meet again. Internal I have a 1080 and in the amp I got a titan x Could it be that i need to plug in a monitor into the amp? In the device manager I see both cards. I also got the recent drivers installed. Thank You for the quick reply, I really appreciate it.
Kind regards
Kenneth

Make sure BIOS is up to date.
Also check this video: Alienware Graphics Amplifier: Setup - YouTube to make sure the amplifier was set up in a proper way.
Finally, remember that the video driver that needs to be installed is the one from the laptop not the one from the amplifier. So you need to unplug system from the amplifier and install the latest video driver (laptop's driver) and restart, and then set up the amplifier.

Dear Eimy
Like I said all drivers are up to date. The bios one I could check out, but I have done that one a few months back.
What I did was not disconnecting the cable when installing the drivers, in any case this won’t matter.
Because everything is working, in the sense that the amp boots up normally the cards fan is turning, when I’m in the device manager I see both cards,
In the benchmark program I see them also, when I go in the nvidea settings and go to the section physic –X I can choose the titan x
What I believe is that I need to plug in ( the amp ) an external monitor, I was trying to get the Titan X to work on my laptop screen.
Plugging in an external monitor will solve my issue ( I hope ). I will try connecting my 4k television and see if that works.
What do you think?
Kind regards
Kenneth

So i updated everything… bios, graphics, chipset everything dell site was offering me and was mandatory. I followed your YouTube movie to the letter and still nothing… ( in that vid when they go to the device manager there is only card showing… the amp card showing )
in device manager i switched off the 1080 and altough titan x was also showing the gpu switeched to the intel graphics card???
Unfortunatly i dont have a extern monitor for testing..
I would really appreciate this problem being solved, by a tech guy if nessecairy.
The card and amp costed me 1500€
Hope to hear from u soon. Kind regards

I updated everything, dell’s driver page was recommended…
Anyway i managed to get my hands on an older model extern monitor that I loaned from a friend, and forced the titan x in de nvidea settings panel to take over all graphic applications such as games ( as I tried with my laptop screen ) And it worked. So I made some progress, but unfortunately still can’t seem to get it to work on my laptop screen :-(
Any ideas?
Kind regards
Kenneth

I don't have an AGA, but it seems many users ask themselves that question eventually.
Hey, I didn't know there was an actual list

It has nothing to do with the titan x being to strong... There are many peeps that have the setup i have and running it on their laptopcreen, that list was for the compability for "optimus" seeing that is only for laptops, and the titan x is a desktop card...
