... it does work my laptop.

Interesting. Does any MP3 headset, ear-buds, cheap PC speaker set, etc ... work on x51?

Since it's high-end, might be worth further troubleshooting.

Exact model and link please.

Not sure how you would use it for gaming without a mic through (unless just single-player).

With what headset? Test this adapter and headset combo on different computer.

It's likely not working because there are a couple of different wiring specs for smartphone headsets.

It would be easier to just buy an analog PC headset.

Or, for a little more, upgrade to digital USB headset.

Thank you for the reply

I'm trying to use my Beats Studios as a gaming headset, I was told this would work; it does work my laptop. But there is something about the Alienware X51 that won't allow it to work...

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B008EQTI4G?vs=1 that is the model, the cable has a mic. I plugged it into the headset splitter on an old hp laptop and it worked fine (the microphone and sound). However when I plug it into the Alienware x51 only the sound works but the microphone doesn't. I have updated everything I can think of. The difference in audio drivers between the HP laptop and Alienware is that Alienware uses Realtek audio, which I believe is the problem but I've checked realtek and all its settings but still no microphone.

the x51 knows there is a mic plugged in, however the volume bar does not move at all.
