Thanks for the help Sujatha, i followed the steps and had a good clean up of my PC and there does seem to be an increase in performance over the last couple of days. It's not back to how it was when it was new but i wouldn't expect it to be. Ive been able to turn up my setting by a level so thanks again for the advice :)
dmpotter, yes my first idea was to try cleaning out the inside of my laptop. When i ran the diagnostics i found the the temperature was running between 63-72 degrees which i think is ok.

Have you cleaned the debris which forms between the fans and the heat fins?
I used a program called GPU-Z and noticed my GPU was running hot 70 cel+, cleaned the fins and now I'm nice and cool.
