M14x R2 Random Freezing Randomly

Hello, it has been one month since I am using my new M14x R2. It started freezing randomly while browsing the internet or using any application. The audio stutters(if any music is playing) and the system freezes completely. Only way is to get it back to normal is to restart by holding the power key for few seconds.

I have tried using A08, A10, A12 Bios with updated drivers individually. I have also tried restoring it with factory image flashing the 3 firmwares again and updating the drivers without installing any applications but an antivirus - Avast Internet Security (Had eset nod32 previously, thought it might be causing the freeze so shifted to avast) The problem still persists. I am a music producer and a live performer where I would be using my laptop. I had a lot of faith in alienware and bought a top end model shelling 2000$ on this piece of machine with a 3yr extended warranty service.

Please let me know the solution for this. Thank you

Hi RakeshBanothu,

It can be annoying when the system freezes repeatedly and appreciate your efforts to fix the issue. I suggest you to clean the air vents with a can of compressed air to remove any dust buildup and run the hardware diagnostics by following the steps provided in the link below:

Please let me know the test results.

Hi Rakeshbanothu,

Does the freezing only happens while browsing over the internet?

June 12th, 2013 00:00

Hello. Nope, it is freezing even without the browser open.

i just got my alienware today and right off the back have the same problem and it seems like everyone has the same problem so its obviously not the vents and all you tell people to do is clean the vents and run a diagnostic

Hi,

I have the same problem with myAlienware M14x R2.

It freezes radomly. Usually the internet browser is on. The only sollution is to turn it off.

As many alienware owners on the internet nothing wrong is detected.

I've been trying to solve this problem for months and I couldn't find help in the support website.

Anyway, my warranty is finishing on August 22.

Please, answer me as soon as possible.

this is just random but i have known problems solved randomly before on alienware laptops , try disconnecting your dvd ribbon from the mother board put it somewhere where its not touching anything else so it doesnt short anything out and restart laptop if it works either your dvd drive or ribbon are at fault
