M15x Slowdown during gaming
Hello everyone!
I've been experiencing a problem with my M15x laptop as of the past few months. During gameplay, after a few minutes, the system will start to slow down considerably, FPS in Serious Sam 3 BFE will drop from a comfortable 32 to a depressing 8 or 10. If I quickly turn stealth mode on and off, the fps will jump back up temporarily, but will fall again after a minute or so. I have the power options set to have the processor at 100% always, and have active cooling turned on. I also have a very large cooling fan so I don't believe it to be a heating problem. Could someone please advise me on what to do? Thank you!

Core i7 - 2.13 quad

I'm no expert, but this sounds like a hallmark overheating issue. The card is getting too hot, and the bios is throttling it to get it back down to an acceptable level. The easiest way to test this is to turn down the settings all the way and see if you can play normally for an extended period of time. Then, turn them back up and use GPUID to log the card temperature as you play. Once it slows down, close out of the game and check the log. If the temps had rised to above 95C or so around the time of the slowdown, then throttling is your issue. I don't know that there is (or should be) any way around it--you don't want to damage the card by running it over 100C for hours on end. You just have to turn off a couple of graphical tweaks and you should be fine.

Sorry I meant to say that the multiplier dropped from x24 to x7, not from x30.

I used GPUID to record the card temperature and the highest I got was 72C. The highest temp on the processor, according to CPU-Z was 80C. CPU-Z shows that around the time of the slowdown, the multiplier on the core dropped from x30 to x7, with the core speed dropping from around 3200Mhz to around 900Mhz. I don't think any of these temperatures would be enough to require the processor or the gpu to be throttled.

Hi, I'm having similar issues on my new m18x playing BF3. performance slows down then whole labtop turns off. would be good to know if anybody else finds that this is a software bug where the fans aren't working correctly...

* Plug the AC adapter in
* Update the Bios to A09
* Restart the PC when done
* Turn Stealth Mode off using the soft button on the top right above the keyboard. This forces the PC to use the discrete video card rather than the onboard video card
* Test the game
