M17X Delivery Date Sliding

Ordered an M17X (i7 2820QM CPU, GTX 580M GPU, 8G mem, 1920x1080 display)  on 7/15 with estimated delivery date of 7/28.  It's replacing a 3 1/2 year old M15X that has performed satisfactorily, and was purchased right when Dell bought Alienware, but had not yet absorbed them.  Alienware customer service and support was tremendous.  They helped me convert from Vista 32 to Win 7 64, which Dell does not support on my machine.

I've run into my first disappointment with Dell when they slid the estimated delivery back a week to 8/4.  Dell doesn't provide the actual reason a ship date is slipping, just a useless "in production" message.  My best guess is the new date was generated by their systems because a component is back ordered and Dell has no idea when it's coming in.

Anyone else having a similar experience?

Since the original post, Dell recovered nicely. They shipped on Friday, 7/29 and my new M17x arrived Saturday, 7/30.  Dell over nighted it at their expense. So it arrived only 2 days after the original promise date.  The machine is as ordered and booted up with no problems. My faith in Dell /  Alienware is restored.
