M17xR2 first start failure

Hello all,

I received my laptop 4 march but im unable to start win7 ult, it is man refurb but has 1 year warranty. I live in finland-- im transferring warranty already but im unsure do i need upgrade it? bios ver is A08 ,4gig mem shows ok in bios done tests pressing F12 all ok, processor is I7 720Qm shows ok but cache is only 1024??, psu is deltaco 240W worldwide,it shipped from laptoptree by ebay.

psu shows blue light on startup so it is ok?

I had: not recognised power supply on start but it is common problem, computer stops when i get to win7 and need to adjust region ie my case finland time zone so on...

BSOD .... no respond ... message starts your secondary processor.... after a while computer starts again beep psu not recognised and so on, basicly i cant start first time windows.

specs are: M17x R2, crossfire 5870 ati, I7 720QM processor, 250 hd 7200, bluray, 6300n, 370 btooth,

ive tried to post to notebookreview forum but i cant get in there.(im not banned)

so help needed!

If its under warrenty why dont you contact tech support? They seem to be very helpful. My 17X didnt recognize my power supply either but that is because they sent me the incorrect power supply. Sounds like you are having other issues. Havent heard of A08 BIOS, I just flashed A06 last night.

The charging problem is a very common issue on the M17x's. The latest BIOS is version A10, which supposedly fixes the problem. On the R1, the latest is A06.

Try going to the BIOS and check your HDD config (RAID, ATA, AHCI) and see what it says. If it says ATA, switch it to AHCI. If it says AHCI, try switching it to ATA.

thank you all for replies! It surely seems that i must try to flash both system bios and video bios cause no

different if i change hd to ATA or AHCI bios recognices only one hd so i assume there is one drive only.

this sucs for sure how can flashing be done if i cant login win7?

i cant login even safe mode BSOD everytime, Alienfx works

My bad. A10 seems to have been released since my R2 died in January.

m3th0d1c4l, do you know what A10 is supposed to have fixed please?
I ask because I note there have been several complaints here from people who have upgraded to A10.

A06 is for the M17x R1. Current BIOS for the R2 is A09.

I would first try to do a startup repair. Press F8 while the system is booting up until you get an option that says repair. Then run a startup repair to fix the booting partition of the drive. If that doesnt work, you will need to reformat wndows from scratch.

The A10 BIOS was supposed to mainly fix the charging issue on the R2, where you would get a error saying plugged in, not charging, etc. For most people, this BIOS fixed it, but some users still randomly have the problem. But it occurs much less often after A10. There were other small fixes as well, i think something with the EC board timing delay after shutting down.

Well, we wont know about the CPU until we can actually get into Windows. So I would try a clean install now.

And yes, you can go straight to A10. There should not be any issue there, as I did myself with my R2.

Just curious...Let's say my new R2 were to arrive with the A08 BIOS (unlikely but you never know), can I flash straight to A10 or do I have to first flash to A09?

Youre welcome, nope repair didnt help me ive loaded bios defaults im wondering about processor cache size

it should be 6mb not 1mb am i right? this indicates some problem in sys bios or processor self.

Ill post later when i get to install win again.

Unplug the laptop from power Turn off the laptop take out the battery depress the power button for a minute put the battery back in plug in the power cord turn on the laptop This should fix the beeping
