m18x wont power on
My m18x just turned off on me and wont come back on, the battery reads full and the ac adaptor works fine until I plug it into the m18x itself,
Were it just trips out until I unplug it from the m18x and it works fine again.
Ive tried draining it e.g remove battery etc and hold the power button, replace battery, try power on but no luck.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Tom91,
It is unfortunate that the computer is not turning on. Request you to try following the below steps.
1 . Remove the battery from the computer and connect the AC Adapter and try powering on the computer
2. Please check if the computer turns on.
3. Try connecting a Known good AC Adapter (If available) and check if the light stays on when plugged in to the computer.
Do reply with your findings.

Hey
I'd just like to say that I'm having the exact same problem with my Alienware M18x.
I was gaming (Playing Payday 2) and all of a sudden, it just powered off, no warning, nothing. it now refuses to turn on and there is a smell of burning plastic in the air. I'm hoping I didn't fry anything in the process and it's just it overheating.
I've let it cool down a bit, I've removed the battery and tried starting it on AC power but it still refuses to turn on at all.

Hi ghost082,
If the computer still doesn’t turn on then make the following observations:
(1) The computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if there are errors or problems. This series of beeps, called a beep code, identifies a problem. Make a note of the beeps you hear from the computer (if any).
(2) Make a note of the power button indicator color.
(3) You may also make a note of the type of lights on the three status LEDs which are located at the top left side of the keyboard. You may refer the below picture:
Also let me know if you still get the burning plastic smell, if yes then please stop making the observations.
Do reply with your answers.

I've tried turning it on but nothing flickers on. No lights no nothing.
I've left it for about an hour and thirty minutes now. The AC adapter's even cooler. But still nothing.
[EDIT]: Still no lights on the main laptop but the AC adaptor light is also off while it's plugged in. Does this mean it must be shipped for maintenance?
[UPDATE]: Moved the AC Adaptor to a different plug. The LED light flashed once (green light) on the adaptor then blinked off.

No light on the adapter after connecting it to the wall. I guess the motherboard has failed.
I think the warranty died a while ago so no hopes on getting it replaced. :(

Hi ghost082,
Try connecting just the AC Adaptor to the wall socket (not to the system) and see if the light glows on the adaptor. There is a possibility that the motherboard might has failed.
You may use the below link and check warranty status:

Hi ghost082,
Request you to try checking with a known good AC Adaptor (if any). If still no go then the motherboard might have failed. You may contact the out of warranty repairs team as mentioned in my previous response.

well no light on adapter leads to believe adapter isnnt powering up ....
meaning possibly adaptor failure... not motherboard...
so best way to check this since im a little confused on previous posts...
seems it don't light up when its plugge dinto computer
does it light up when its NOT connected to computer... just plug it in on its own ?
if so, does light go out when plugged into computer... u said flickers but just want clarification
cause if it lights up then goes out when connected it might still be power brick.. but best to get tested (power reading) but usually if goes out when plugge dinto computer its the computer ..

I am having a power issue with my M18x as well. I push the power button and the system lights up, I can hear the CD ROM trying to spin up and then it turns right back off.
I have tried it unplugged on battery, plugged in with battery, plugged in without battery, and have tried power draining multiple times. This all ends with the same result. I push the button, it lights up for less than 3 seconds and turns back off.
What is this issue related to? What do I try next?
Thanks.

My computer got same problem as yours. Have you fixed it already?
Could you tell me how to fixed it? or what's the problem? then I can test by my own before I call Dell experts.
Thank you
