My CPU & GPU are overheating, even when the system is idle.

Hey people,

I just have my Alienware Aurora R4 a year, and now that the warranty is gone it shows problems. My CPU & GPU are ovezrheating after booting the system. They are all around 80 degrees Celsius. When I try to play a game, I get huge fps drops and the system shuts itself down after the CPU hits 105 degrees celcius. Can anyone please help?

Thank you.

Overheating can be a result of dust buildup.  Make sure everything inside is cleaned with a can of compressed air.  You can also try to reapply new thermal paste to the CPU, but that should not be necessary after just one year unless it was not applied correctly to begin with.  If your GPU is free of dust and still overheating, you may have to replace it.  Verify all your case fans, video card fan and CPU/heatsink fan are running correctly by taking the side panel off and turning the system on.
