my troubles with Dell Tech support
I just wanted to put my story out in the open for all dell purchasers and employees to see. I hope this will yield something good for me or someone else having similar issues, or maybe even help someone avoid similar issues. This may get long but I will do my best to keep is as short as I can.
I came across some money and I decided instead of wasting it on perishables I would invest in something good and long term. I have been needing an updated computer so I decided to get a good gaming laptop for both gaming (of course) and my studies. I tend to try to get the best if I can. So I spent as much money as I was willing to on the computer. My Alienware 17 ended up costing $4000 in the end (with case and mouse as well). This may seemed to be to much for some of you but heck, I had the money so why not. At least I know it will be able handle a lot.
It wasn't long that I started having issues. I had intermediate issues with my wifi connection. It would just go out. At first I thought it was my network. After testing that properly I discovered that was not the case. So I plugged up the ethernet and it still was going out. So called dell, they got me to send it in and they replaced the motherboard. Well it worked for a short time, but then started going out again. But this time the ethernet worked perfectly. So I call them again and this time they send out a technician to my apartment and he replaces my wireless card. I had the Intel 7260 ac and he just gave me a new one. Still going out...
Frustrated, I didn't want to go through the same stupid tech support troubleshooting: remote desktop, check drivers are updated, check bios version, run dell hardware tests, reboot, reinstall drivers.... even though we have been through this every time. Anyways, I put it off for a little while. Then the AC adaptor started giving me issues. It would sometimes say it wasn't supported. So I called them again. With both problems and they got it sent in for the second time.
Okay, 3rd try. It's back to me again. New AC adaptor, good, turn it on and the adaptor is recognized, good. Literally in the first few minutes of being logged into windows the wireless starts dropping again. I start googling it. I see all over the place how this Intel 7260 ac has problems and how intel hasn't really done anything about it. Some people say it only has problems with some wireless band types and to just change the router's band. Well I don't have control of my internet, my apartment comes with wireless for free. So I can't change it. Plus, for $4000 I think my computer should work completely; especially for something as basic as internet connectivity.
I emailed this time. Not happy. Not a very nice email either. How did the technicians think this was working? Did they even test it? The tech support employee called me the next day and he schedule another technician to come to me and replace the wireless card with a new brand! I was amazed. Maybe this new card will work, new brand, new driver. I was expecting what seems to be the norm for Alienware now, Killer wireless. Well I was wrong. He sent the technician with a Broadcom 1550. Not only is this just a basic wireless card but it also has some bad reviews online. I have a gaming computer, I was expecting a gaming network adaptor. Why would he not send a gaming network adaptor is beyond me.
As of right now I have sent another email to the same tech support employee about this. Again not a good email. I have told him I expect the best for $4000 and he needs to get me the best. That I expect killer and not a standard, basic internet browsing, network adaptor. I'm not happy at all with Dell or their employees. My chances of ever purchasing from dell again are not balancing on a string, depending on how this next wireless card issue is handled.
Well that is all at the moment. If anyone is interested in hearing the rest of this story as it progresses I will updated it. Just let me know if you are. Otherwise I will just leave this here and move on. Thank you for reading my rant and letting me blow off some steam. If any of you have any frustrating stories of your own please feel free to type it up!
